Heat Articles & Interviews

Mann among men - MSNBC, July 25, 2006
Analysis of Michael Mann's moviemaking pays special attention to Heat and the 2006 film, Miami Vice. Kevin's portrayal of Waingro is mentioned in the first few paragraphs: "Even [Mann's] titles talk plainly: Thief, Heat, Ali, Collateral. No wasted words. In Heat, a new member of a heist crew, Waingro (Kevin Gage), says a dozen unnecessary words and is told, matter-of-factly, 'Stop talking, okay Slick?' Sloppy with words, Waingro is sloppy on the job and kills unnecessarily." Well-written, interesting article.

Heat Reviews & Other Resources

Heat - Fan site includes reviews, quotes, and quite a few screencaps. Sound clips and videos are, unfortunately, currently unavailable.

HEAT: the movie vs. the script - Sharon Coates provides some interesting commentary on the movie in this edition of the Val Kilmer Newsletter. She mentions Waingro, referring to him as "a plot device masquerading as a character. He is a magician's sleight of hand. Waingro exists in all his monstrosity simply to make Neil and the rest of his gang look less criminal...less like the killers that they all become."

Rotten Tomatoes Heat: Rotten Tomatoes Reviews - Rotten Tomatoes gives Heat an excellent rating of 85%, and provides quite a few quotes and links to reviews. The excellent supporting cast and "unforgettable subcharacters" are mentioned in several reviews.

still from Heat Heat: the final waltz of the cyborgs - Lawrence Russell provides more of a detailed analysis than a review. Major spoilers. "Waingro," the character played by Gage, is described as "a thrill-killer, a sociopath who kills as part of his sexual expression."

Kevin Gage as Waingro in Heat Movie Guns X: Guns Used in Heat - Incredibly detailed description and analysis of the weapons used in Heat, with lots of screencaps to illustrate. "Waingro (Kevin Gage) has a blued Star Megastar, in what looks like .45 ACP, which he uses to kill an armored car guard." In the hotel scene near the end, the author notes that "Waingro is armed with another Star Megastar; this one in stainless steel. Notice the finger on trigger, safety off, and hammer back. Rule number three!"

MovieWeb: Heat - Brief film details and an outstanding selection of high-resolution stills. Unfortunately no Waingro pics.
